Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mini... Red or Grey?

While packing up my stuff to move, I found an old purse that I had purchased a while ago with the intention of using it for work, but never did because it was too large and I didn't really like it anyway.  It was still wrapped in tissue paper, untouched, so thanks to Endless.com's generous return policy (365 days!), I'm getting my money back and decided to finally get the Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mini that I've been thinking about for a long time.

There are a lot of different colors available, and my top two choices were the Pale Grey or Red:

True to my style (and with hubby grumbling in the background), I ordered both!  Oh but now... which color to keep??

I like that neither of them has gold hardware.  The pale grey, which I thought would be more versatile, is actually rather dull in real life and has a slightly icky greenish tone which I'm not a fan of.  The red in real life is not quite as orange-y as in the picture and is more of a richer, but still bright, red.  I wish it was a little deeper shade of red, but I definitely still like it anyway.  All my current purses are either black or beige, so I wouldn't mind adding a little pop of color (red is apparently a neutral, no?)... but grey is more muted and more within my comfort zone.

I'm really torn on this one!  Here's some more pics:

Oh, and I found a little surprise inside the red bag when I opened it:

Wow, seriously?  Not sure if the someone had previously returned the purse and forgot it in there, or some guy had stuck it in there hoping a random girl would call lol...

  1. What a cute purse! I would pick the red one if it was for me. Red would go with white/black/navy blue outfits.
The card was strange. Did you call :)?

  2. I'd pick the red one. Then again my fiancée doesn't really trust my sense of style

  3. Omg! That post card almost seems fake lol. I've never had a guy leave me a # on a glamour photo : )

I would go for the grey, but what can I say, I'm "dull." I've actually seen both colors (unless it was variations) of those minis at Off Saks and Nordstrom rack, both in CA! The red I remember was quite bright.

  4. Just fyi, the Vincent card is in all (or at least all 4 I've bought) Rebecca Minkoff bags :)

  5. The red! The red! *jumping up and down*

LOL...the card is in all RM Morning After bags. Here is what RM said herself about it:

"There is a little card in each bag that has a cute boy's picture on it and his number to call. I find cute pics and have them printed on cards and people actually do call! When customers call they hear a guy's voice and he is French. Some people call and think they met the guy the night before. It's kind of funny to hear some of the messages!"

    Enjoy your Mini Mini! =)

  6. AN - I was JUST about to post the same thing since I went and googled his number haha... And btw, is yours the 'passionfruit' with the gold hardware? Is it the same shade of red as this one?

    PetiteLittleGirl - No I didn't call :P

    Thanks for your input everyone!

  7. I vote red... or grey... no... red. The good news is, you'll be happy either way! :)

That is so funny about the card! I want one!!

  8. Go with the red! You didn't like the "greenish" tint to the grey and you already have other neutral colored bags, right? Plus, the cool postcard was in the red. Fate I think...

  9. I'd say grey...thats bc it goes with everything in my closet. If you already have a lot of purses in the neutral colors then I'd go with the red. Hope that helps :)

  10. Red is more bold. Although, grey can be chic as well. =o)

  11. I like the grey but what can I say? I like my boring-colored purses as well. ;)

  12. The red would have definitely look nicer if is in a darker shade of red. I generally prefer burgundy over true red. I would definitely go with the red. Happy you found the one :). I'm still learning to wear my accessories.

  13. If you're going for a statement piece: RED.

If you're going for an all-purpose bag: GRAY.

  14. I vote for red. It's just such a bright pop of color - but you're talking to someone who uses a very lemony yellow bag for everyday purposes.

  15. RED RED RED! Red matches a lot of things. If grey is within your comfort zone, do you already have a bag that's grey? If so, doesn't hurt to try and play around with a red one :)

  16. Thanks for everyone's comments and suggestions! I see that the general consensus is red >> grey. When I was writing the post, I was leaning towards the red, so the wording may have been slightly biased :P

It's hard to capture true-to-life colors on photo and monitors, and after looking at the two more closely, I think the shade of red may be a little too bright to be able to go with many things. I don't have a purse in grey yet, and hubby votes for the grey, plus I don't think I'm fashionable enough to be to carry a statement piece... so now I'm leaning slightly towards grey!

It's only been a day so I might change my mind another few hundred times. But if I do keep the grey, I definitely want a handbag in the perfect shade of red in the future!

  17. If you want to jazz up the grey, you could tie a scarf on the handle - be it a cheapie or frou frou scarf, you can dress up the bag as needed. I did that for a long while with a basic taupe bag I loved, and I got a lot of compliments on both pieces.

That said, I love all things red :)

  18. I'm a big fan of RM~!! I would've probably choose the grey since its safer, but the red looks so gooood!! I hope you can be brave and stick with the red :]

  19. My Mini Mini is called "Red Berry", but it does look a lot like the Passion Fruit from the pictures. It has a tint of orange in it. Do let us know which one you keep. =)

  20. hello! thank you for subbing :3 i'm following back :D :D your about me sounds like me in a few years ^__^

where are you currently? i actually aspire to attend ucsd for med school. well anywhere would be nice x_x D

  21. alas, i returned to h&m today and found that nothing really appealed to me so i didn't get anything. most of the clothes that were left started at size 6 so it swallowed me.

ucsd isn't the easiest place to get into, but it's close to home. i realize that the better the name, the worse life is there. i'll definitely keep that in mind! honestly i'm not that picky for med school. if i can get into a public one i'd be satisfied. i'm currently at washu for undergrad and my life is already pretty miserable :D

  22. Hilarious. Keep the red one. It has a great story behind it. By the way, that return policy is incredible! I've never heard of anything so generous!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  23. Gosh that's a tough one. But if the gray one is dull. then I say the red....do you wear enough to get a lot of use out of it? If it were me- I'm way too boring and would keep the gray because I have tons of gray and would be able to match it up more but that's just me:)

  24. Ok well the Call Me, Vincent card says Rebecca Minkoff in the corner. It is clearly an advertising scheme.
