PFC #4 - Holiday Party

The fourth Petite Fashion Challenge is being hosted by Elaine of Curls and Pearls!

The Challenge:
Create a holiday party look using festive colors and/or holiday pieces without looking like a greeting card.

It doesn't sound too hard, right?  Except I've never been to a holiday party and don't really have any holiday pieces in my wardrobe!  But here's something I could possibly wear to a friends or family gathering:

Top:  Ann Taylor    Skirt:  Banana Republic    Cardigan:  American Eagle
Shoes:  TB Classic Reva Ballerina Flat in Black with Silver Logo, size 5.5
Necklace:  Nordstrom    Pin:  LOFT    Belt: Gift    Tights:  Simple Vera

I bought this skirt around this time last year, so it had always felt like a holiday piece to me.  I added the flower pin, which is a recent LOFT acquisition, so I'd have some green to complement my red to represent the quintessential holiday colors :)

Speaking of recent buys, I got pair of suede OTK boots from LOFT a while back when there were on sale for ~$60.  Initially I thought the fit was not great as the shaft was loose overall and had planned on returning... but I tried them on with this outfit and now I'm having second thoughts:

Hubby was less than helpful so I figured I'd ask my wonderful blog readers for opinions/feedback.  I like how they look from the front, but here are some side views:

The cuffs can be folded down, but I don't really like how that looks because then you can really see how my scrawny my thighs and calves are by comparison.  The price isn't too bad at all for boots, but I never would've thought I could do OTK boots.  What do you think... to keep or not to keep?

Sorry for all the headless pics.  Wish I had time to get all holiday-glam on ya (well, it'd also help if I actually knew how!), but I'm working nights this month and had literally just rolled out of bed at 4 pm and had to be back at work in an hour, and looked frightful in every single shot.  Serves me right for procrastinating until the last minute, but I'm glad I was still able to participate in this PFC... now to go see what everyone is wearing for their holiday parties! :)

  1. Great outfit! The boots look awesome on you! They look like they fit so well! Worn [un]folded up, it's hard to tell that your legs don't completely fill the boot. That's why I love OTK so much. Much more forgiving than knee-high boots. You should totally keep them, esp. for $60!

i think the otk boots look great on you! they're not too tall and i think they fit your legs pretty well! they're keepers in my book! :)

  4. I ADORE these looks on you. All the clothing pieces here fit you so nicely and the colors are elegant but festive. I saw a lot of this purpleish color in the entries...love it! I just ordered a long pearl necklace on ebay after seeing AN's all the time and I really like yours too for a holiday touch.

And my, your legs seem quite long in flats!

From the front I LOVE the otk boots. How come you didn't share with us when it was $60? I would've jumped on that : ) From the side I see what you mean and the flopping top is less than ideal. I wish the OTK part wasn't open in teh back like that. But again, the front...it looks so nice!

Get some needed rest! And I'm SURE you did not look "frightful" lol...not possible.

  6. Oh yay! I just linked you on my post :)

I love this look on you, the skirt with that top - everything about it! And the pearls always so classy. I really like those boots on you. I don't think boots should be SUPER tight anyway and they make your legs look long!

  7. I think we have the same BR skirt and AE sweater...LOL. I almost wore that skirt in my PFC outfit post, but decided on the lace skirt instead. I like the little green accent from the pin, it's festive without going overboard. Very nice!

    - Did you get the skirt taken in? Mine sits a tad low and I'm thinking about getting it altered, but not sure yet.

  9. I love BOTH kinds of shoes! I have been lusting over those exact TB flats forever - was there any break-in time where they were uncomfy at first?? I also love the boots and think you look great for a holiday party :) Great job!!

  11. I love your outfit, it seamlessly incorporates all the festive colors. I vote keep the boots, they look great on you from the front and if they aren't uncomfortable, they are keepers! :)

I hope you get some well-deserved rest soon...this is crazy how little sleep you must be getting.

  12. Great holiday look! The boots do look a bit loose, but you can always wear thicker socks with them to fill them out a bit more. It's such a good deal, I'd keep them! =)

  13. so many things to say.

1st: I am always soooo scared to mix red and green for fear it is too "festive." but your outfit (red skirt, green flower) works!!!! oh it so works!! I must take note b/c they're far apart not to clash and the red and green colors aren't bright and do not scream "xmas here i am!" Beautifully done!

2nd: I actually like the OTK boots w/this outfit. I'd have to watch you walk around in these boots to really see if they're too big & floppy around the knees, but honestly, I like it when they're not tight b/c they're supposed to give off a casual feel. We're not trying to recreate the look of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman - if you get my drift. I think it looks great on you!!! $60 is a must keep (I assume it is real seude or real leather?).

I really like this entry. Makes your proportions look so girlish.

  14. a hint of holiday glam, i like it. the boots look fantastic but i agree that having a loose shaft is very annoying. i'd return for the price

  15. WOW- this may be my fav look on you! Those boots are HOT! Tweeted you about how great you look..LOL

Never thought a petite could pull off OTK boots but you look stunning!

  16. You look so cute...I have that pin in pink!!

  17. I love the outfit on you! The flirty skirt is so adorable. : ) The OTK boots look great, but I'm not a fan of the thick heel. Do you feel comfortable in them? The front looks really nice, but it looks just a little floppy from the side. What do you think? : )

  18. Classic style, loves it totally what I'd wear to a holiday party! and I really like those boots, don't doubt them for a sec! it's hard for me to find knee high boots that fit because of my fat calves :T

  19. Gorgeous!! I love all the accessories, the colors...everything!

I agree with Jean...your legs look so long in flats!

I do not know how I feel about the boots un-cuffed. I want to see them cuffed! Great deal, though! Almost say keeper just for that!

  20. I love the OTK Boots on you! It looks so cute and your outfit definitely has a warm festive look to it. Perfect outfit post for the challenge!

  21. This might be my favorite outfit I've seen on the challenge so far. Very chic. You should try to attend a holiday party this year just so you can wear it :)

  22. Adorable look from top to bottom. The accessories and red skirt are what made this outfit for me. I say keep the boots because they look amazing on you. And for $60 I would fold them down since you don't like the OTK look.

  23. This is one of my favorite outfits of yours. You look absolutely adorable in this outfit. I love everything from your top to your boots. I think you should keep the boots. I do like them on you.

  24. Oh I'm so glad you made it! I didn't know you entered until now. :) I just love the outfit. The skirt is so cute and the color is very nice. I think I have tried these boots in store once and the fit was all wrong on me. I'm glad it works on you. I bought a Nine West pair (also black suede) over Thanksgiving and I would share some pictures soon.

  25. Totally love this outfit! I like the fact that it looks holiday special and comfortable at the same time. The color combination really pops, espcially with the flower pin!! (Thanks for taking the time to participate, I know it can be difficult sometimes. I really like the boots, but I think I'd like to see them with jeans too. The price sounds excellent and if they're warm and comfortable I'd def keep them - they're very on trend!

  26. I love your outfit, everything you're wearing fits you super nice, I think this is one of my favorites... I like the boots in the front pictures because they look like if they are below the knee but not liking so much the side views. Maybe those boots will look better with skinny jeans?

  27. I love this combination of colors. The moss green pin is very pretty on the cream top, and the cream top goes very well with the color of the skirt! I recently purchased an A-line skirt, and loving it. Have a great weekend.

  28. This outfit is so cute!! I love the colors together of the holidays! You coordinated them well. I love those boots as well =)

  29. What a perfect combo! I love how chic and polished it looks. Especially loving the accessories that you've paired with the ensemble. Your legs look super looooooonnnnng! What's your typical inseam?

  30. Now that I have re-visited your pictures...I think the boots are a definate keeper. This is one of my favorite outfits of the challenge. Like I tell my students, I do not want to make the others jealous by telling them who my favorite is. :p
