A Short Coat Here & A Long Coat There

When it rains, it pours!  Both in terms of work, where every day has been busier than the last, but luckily also in terms of shopping for coats!  I had ordered a whole bunch, hoping that may be one or two would work out.  And while usually my success rate is almost always zero, this year for some reason I keep finding potential keepers!

While I am definitely keeping my Jack BB Dakota coat, I'm also being tempted by these two recent petite-friendly finds.  First is the A|X Fitted Peacoat in XS:

I was pretty impressed by how slim this fits!  The sleeves are a bit long but not so long that I'd have to get alterations.  The length of course is longer on me, but I dare say that it actually fits even closer to the body on me that it does on the model.  It retails for $185, now on sale for $149 and A|X has a free shipping and $50 off $150 purchase with code 50FORHER which ends on 12/15.  They also offer free return shipping or returns to store as well.

Second is the Banana Republic Wool Ruffle Coat in Sugar Plum, size XXSP:

I got it on a whim because it was on sale at the time with an extra 40% off, making it about ~$100.  I didn't expect too much but as it turns out I'm also tempted to keep this one!  I love the eggplant purple, and while the coat isn't as slim-fitting as my Jack BB Dakota, the fit is not too bad overall and is good for throwing over any amount of layers underneath.

Do I need all these coats, especially in CA weather?  Probably not.  But I sure do WANT them all lol.  And of course I still have one more coat in olive coming in the mail from J.Crew, courtesy of PAG.  If that one fits well too, I really don't know what I'm going to do!

Sorry I didn't have any time to take actual modeling pics... maybe I will do a collage of all my winter coat acquisitions when everything gets here! :)

  1. You got so many coats! I honestly don't know which one I like more...they all look so cute. I'll reserve my opinion for when you are able to take modeling pics. I am on a permanently coat ban so I will swiftly close this browser now and not be further tempted. That BR coat is the perfect shade of purple...so hard to resist not taking out my credit card and using it right. :)

  2. great selection in coats!! i'm amazed that A|X has clothes to fit petite frames (michelle recently also reviewed them) and am really glad to know that this jacket fits you so well!

the purple BR jacket is also gorgeous! i love the longer length and the little ruffle details along the front center.

I can't wait until you model all of them for us (including the JCrew one)!

  3. Wow you're just a dollar short of the $50 off thing for the A|X coat! I don't think it's really worth $149, but if it was a a hundred, I might give it a second thought. The BR one is a really pretty colour, but I say if the JCrew one fits, keep that one and return the others. : ) The Jack BB Dakota looks amazing on you too though. :D

  7. I decided that the wool peacoat I sewed myself last winter no longer fits well when I pulled it out of the closet this week (it's finally cold enough here in NE to wear it). I think the wool stretched out over the winter b/c now it is too wide across the shoulders. This means I need a new one, and I am trying to draw inspiration from the ones I am seeing on the petite bloggers to help me figure out a style and color. These are cute. I suppose I could just go ahead and buy one, but then what would be the fun in that? (secretly I am afraid if I get too much in the habit of buying stuff that my handmade items will be neglected and feel lonely).

  8. Haha, it's so easy to be tempted by coats. All the ones you picked out are great :) I'd hate to be in your shoes when it's decision time though. I think a peacoat is a must in every girl's closet, but so is a long coat. The purple color of the BR coat is sooo pretty. Can't wait to see your modeling pics!

  9. The first coat looks very pretty, and the fit appears tailored. When I was living in SF I had to wear a coat out the door almost every morning. Lucky you sunny SoCal :).

  10. If you got the AX coat in store I wonder if they'd give the $50 off even if its a dollar short, hmm! I can't wait to see modeling pics of these on you. If you can't tell already I love, love coats!

  12. I've always loved coats, so I can understand your recent craze for them. I think the first one looks the vest as with your white BB Dakota one. But the purple BR one doesn't seem as appealing and it's quite similar to the J.Crew one. So if it was me, I'd choose between the J.Crew and BR...I wouldn't keep both.

Being in LA, I've only worn my long coat a handful of times, but my peacoats, I'm wearing almost everyday. I'm sure we don't need that many coats, but I like variety. =)

  14. Oooh! I can't wait to see you model these coats! I wear 3/4 length coats almost everyday. But it's important to have options for sure!

  16. Jean - I was right at $149 in the A/X store, but they would not grant the $50 off. Glad they did not, because I ended up finding a necklace on sale for $20 that I love (you already saw it in my recent A/X post).
