Review: Jack by BB Dakota Romaine Plush Coat

I promised pics of this Jack by BB Dakota Romaine Plush Coat quite a while ago:

But never got around to it because I kept waiting to find time to take it to my tailor to get the sleeves shortened.   But as you have it, as soon as I found time, I also found out that her shop is closed until next week!   So here are some "pre-" tailoring pics anyway, just pretend that the sleeves are appropriately shortened :)

As Jen from FrmHeadToToe showed in her video, the collar can be worn either up or down (and I'm so thrilled that it fits her too!).  Unless I happen to be freezing, I'll most likely be wearing it down more often.

Like I mentioned before, other than the sleeves which currently swallow up my entire hand, I'm pretty happy with the overall fit and don't plan on getting anything else altered.  And while the material is a mix of polyester, viscose and spandex without any wool, it's warm enough for SoCal winters and the ~$50 I spent on it is more than reasonable I think.

Interestingly enough, I spotted the exact same coat currently being sold for $128 on Urban Outfitters!  And as a reader Doris pointed out, this coat can also be found on Modcloth for $70, but the best deal seems to be at Gliks.com for $48 (where it comes in Ivory, Black and Tan) with an advertised 30% off coupon if you sign up for emails.  Definitely (in-store coupon only, but still) not a shabby price for a coat!

I hope you're all having a happy Thanksgiving holiday!  No turkey and no Black Friday shopping for me this year (except for online of course!), but I look forward to seeing everyone's spoils! :)

  1. I really like this coat on you. It fits you quite well. After the alterations, the fit would be perfect. Although, it is kind of hard to keep it clean. For the exact same coat, one costs $128.00 and the other one costs $48.00 plus 30% off? That is very interesting! I have never heard of Gliks.com before. I would totally consider buying this coat if I didn't purchase 3 new coats since last month. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

  3. The body fit looks perfect on you and I also love the color. The light color combined with the style makes it look very luxe! Great deal too!

  4. I think the coat looks amazing on you! I need a white coat in my life. haha

I wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving. : )

  5. The coat is great!! Why must you tempt me!? $48 + a % off, not a bad deal at all! I do NEED a new coat...hmm... :p

What is the exact length of the sleeve?

No Friday shopping for me, either. In fact, I have never shopped on "Black Friday."

  6. The coat looks ABSOLUTELY darling on you!!! :)

  7. Great find! What a tiny fit! Hmmm...I'm tempted...but I keep telling myself I need more short coats. =P

  8. It looks so cute on you! You make me want another coat even though I already have quite a few ;) Does the material feel more like wool or fleece? Hmm.. I might have to size up since I'm a little bit taller and heavier than you.

  10. I lovvee winter white clothing. They look better than summer whites (is there such a thing?), I think. Is this jacket a XS? Besides the sleeves, it fits you amazingly well. Plus the sleeves don't look extra long unless your arms are by your side... so I'd be tempted to wear them out before getting alterations ;)

  11. I bought this in XS too, in the same color! I'm 4'10" and 80lbs, so it fits me similar to Jen FrmHeadToToe... and I also need to get the sleeves altered. But I LOVE it! It looks awesome on you, it's much longer on me. Amazing find :)

  13. Just FYI- the 30% off at Gliks is only valid for instore purchases not online :(

  14. PetiteLG - I'd never heard of Gliks either! But apparently they have physical stores too. Glad I didn't buy off of Urban Outfitters, I'd be so mad at paying over twice the price (well, I'd just return it, but still :P)

Reeni - Sounds like you got a great deal too! This coat seems to be available from a lot of places!

SewPetiteGal, The Little Dust Princess, Ping, kileen - It's not exactly a practical color, but I do love it!

Michelle - The sleeves are nearly 24.5"... quite long for such a slim fitting coat!

April - Thank you! It's very very rare that I find something that fits this small (almost) without any alterations!

Alterations Needed - That's true, you already have such nice Burberry coats! This will be my first long coat so I'm definitely excited :)

DoubleZero - I'm by no means an expert at fabrics, but would go out on a limb and say more like wool. I don't have any fleece jackets that feels like this. Plus it's fully lined which is nice :)

Cee - Yup it's an XS (and not even petite sizing!) I suppose in the pics the sleeves don't look too bad, but in real life I just can't do anything when I'm wearing the coat because they won't stay scrunched up (I did try!), so unfortunately I'm going to have to fork out for alterations.

MoneyMaus - Yay I'm so glad it fits you too! I can't imagine how much harder it is for you guys to find clothes!

Megan - Oh darn, I've never ordered from them before, just saw the offer on their website. Thanks for letting me know!

  15. Oh wow it even hits at the right part on the waist!

  16. Hi, that really is a lovely coat. After seeing it on Jen and now you, I`m debating whether or not to buy it. The thing is, I almost bought a white peacoat from Ann Taylor Loft last year. It was GORGEOUS, fit wonderfully and was a good price--the only catch was that it collected lint like no other ! How is this one faring in terms of dust/lint collecting and just overall ability to stay clean and white ?

  17. What a pretty coat! I've been craving a white coat for awhile, I will have to check that out! Looks great on you :)

  18. I have wanted a white trench style coat for a while now, but I keep telling myself that I should make one, rather than buy. For $48, the cost would be cheaper to buy this. I love it, it looks great on you. Since you are exactly the same size as me I think I would need to shorten the sleeves as well.

  19. I can't believe how well this coat fits you!..and once you get the sleeves shortened it will be perfect. Thanks so much for this review, I've been looking forward to it. Happy Thanksgiving!

  20. I adore white coat, it is so adorable! I think it is totally worth the alterations. Even at 70 bucks, not bad at all for a coat. I want one too!

  21. Great fit, besides the sleeves of course :P I really want a white coat but since I wear make up I know it would get dirty so quickly!

  22. This white coat looks just terrific on you and it's such a great price to pay for something that fits well! Hehe I kind of wanted one after you and Jen both got it but I just know I can't keep a white coat clean for more than five minutes so I had to pass. Can't stress how cute it looks on you!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  23. Thank you sooo much for the links! I just ordered mine in the white from Modcloth. :) Too bad Glik's only had it in black, as that's a great price. When I first saw it on Piperlime it was already sold out in XS. I'm really glad I was able to pick one up.

  24. the white coat looks so clean and pretty. i like it with the collar up!

  25. Jackie - It sure does hit me right at the waist, which is good because otherwise it'd be pretty hard to alter!

Dominique - I actually haven't worn it out yet (waiting for alterations), so maybe Jen can answer that question better. As with any white item of clothing though, I wouldn't expect it to last forever but I'm hoping that with some extra care, it'll last me a while!

Tara - I do love winter white! Just have to be careful and not eat around the coat :P

littlenashua - It's a little sad but sometimes it's cheaper just to buy (same with knitting sweaters... nice yarn is freakin' expensive. I wanted to make hubby a sweater but it would've cost $75+ for enough yarn eek). I agree that you'd definitely have to shorten the sleeves on this one.

Callandra - I couldn't believe how small it was either! That's why I jumped the gun and blogged about it even before pics were taken :)

Nelah - (Don't) call me an enabler but I think you'd look amazing in it! :P

curls-and-pearls - I realize a white/ivory coat is probably not feasible for daily wear-and-tear, but I love it for when I want to look nice!

Elle - Did I mention it also comes in black and tan? Juuuust saying.... ;)

hugstiem - Yay! I'm so glad you were able to get yours! It's always great to know the links are helpful for others :)

Temi - Thanks for reading! I just checked out yours and looks like it would've been very helpful for PFC #4!

Angie - I'm not sure I have enough style to wear it up hehe... but will try it!

  26. can you let us know how much it cost you to get the sleeves shortened @ the tailors?

    ReplyDelete
  27. The coat is beautiful and it is a pity that the sleeves are so long! I'm glad you are getting it tailored since having proportional sleeves will make the biggest difference.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The jacket looks great on you! I bought the tan one from Revolveclothing.com and since they have a price match guarantee policy, they agreed to match $48 price advertised on Gliks.com.

  29. I must've read this post like five times yet somehow never commented. Great find on this coat (seems like lots of other tiny petites no have it!) and it will look fantastic after the sleeves are shortened. I love the thought of a cream coat but that only works for you ladies who are minimalistic on the makeup...my concealer will smear all over that lovely cream collar on the first wear!

  30. This is such a cute coat!!! I can't wait for the sleeves to be tailored!!! The fit everywhere else is lovely!

  31. What a terrific deal! It'll look even more amazing after you get it back from the tailor. I'm always attracted to white coats (I almost bought a white puffer a few days ago) but with a little one these days, dark dark dark (or machine washable) is the way to go!

  32. Why are the buttons on the coat you purchased white while on the sample, they are gold?
