Tucker For Target Review

When I heard that the new Tucker for Target collection sold out in minutes on Gilt, it made me wonder what the hype was all about.  When they became readily available on Target.com with free shipping and armed with a $5 coupon, I figured I'd give it a try.  I'm a little conservative when it comes to bold prints, so I stayed somewhat within my comfort zone.  I ended up getting these items:

Camisole in Orange, size XS ($23)
Skirt in Orange Herringbone, size 1 ($35)

The rust orange of the blouse is a fall color that my closet is devoid of, so I was really hoping this one would turn out nice.  But sadly the fit was not so good:

While it looks almost like a halter top on the model, on me it was low-cut and wide.  The material is 100% polyester and feels slightly silky but thin.

The skirt fared a little better...  true to the multiple reviews saying that it runs small, the size 1 did surprisingly fit pretty snugly and sat on my true waist.

However, the length is slightly too long, and hits me just below the knee.  The herringbone pattern is a little dizzying close up, and even though the material is textured but not too scratchy, I don't like the fact that it's not lined.

Initially, I was so excited about the fit of the waist and the orangy fall color of the skirt that I thought I would keep - I'd envisioned that it'd go well with some nice cognac or tan boots.  But I'm now having second thoughts about the length and the flaring A-line shape.

I also had ordered a couple other things, including the Halter Top in Mosaic Print, size XS ($25):

And while the print was nice, the top was a couple sizes too big and way too long, just like PetiteLG had found.

And last was this Velvet Dress in Burntout Print, size XS ($50):

This was actually quite well-fitting in the bust, thanks to some smocking in the back.  But it was made for someone at least 3-4 inches taller than me, because the body ruching that's supposed to end at the waist actually ends at my mid-hip, making me look short and frumpy.  The print, especially in velvet, was a little bit much for me as well.

So overall, I wouldn't say I was terribly impressed with Tucker for Target.  With the exception of the numerically sized skirt, sizing runs big and the materials don't really seem worth the price.  I'm sure some fashionistas out there can rock those prints, but that's just my 2 cents!

  1. Hmm, the orange top doesn't look anything like on the model, and even though it is big and a little long, I think it does have some styling potential if you added a loose fitting belt. Would definitely need some time to play around with it.

  3. Just went to Target yesterday and was surprised to see a bunch of the pieces in stock. Nothing really caught my eye though so I didn't buy anything.

I'm not loving these two pieces on you, so I think you should definitely return! We need to keep each other in line when it comes to keeping items that don't look that great. :)

  4. Did I read A-line? I am totally gonna grab me some! Please let me know what shoes and brand you recommend for a 3 inch ish pair of nude (patent and matte) pumps!

  5. Wow I love that herringbone skirt for fall! The colors are gorgeous! If it was shorter and pencil shaped, it would be just perfect. Hmm.. I feel like going to the fabric store to hunt for similar :) Did you say the waist is snug on you O_o? Shocked!!

  6. I tried on the same skirt as well as the blue/gold one. Both are A-line and flared out too much to my liking. I like the tucked in pic :). I don't suppose you can take in the sides as there are pockets.

  7. i feel the way as you...wasn't sure what the big hype was about either. i do love the colors of the top and the skirt...if it only fit right?

  8. Cher - The orange top is very low cut (I readjusted in the pics for modesty's sake), and I have no idea how to take up the skinny straps that it comes with, so styling with a belt isn't going to save it for me. It's also floppy and won't stay tucked in either. Thanks for the suggestion though!

mich LA - It's true! This is one of the reasons I enjoy blogging... it's like having lots of girlfriends who'll give honest opinions (unlike hubby's "it looks fine") so I only keep the great pieces and not have as many "what was I thinking" items in the closet :)

sophia - I was thinking the same too... a pencil skirt shape would've been better I think. And lol it wasn't uncomfortably tight or anything, was just actually small enough to fit me at the small of my waist which is very rare off the rack.

Sydney - You're right, it would probably cost more to take the big flare due to the pockets.

Ping - I'm really hyped about fall colors since I don't have a lot of those in my closet... but not at the expense of good fit though!

  9. I wasn't immpressed with this line at all. Everything was too big for petites. Although I do like the fall colors pieces on you. I guess we have to wait and see who is the next designer for Target. I'll pass on this one :)

  10. Just from the few reviews I have read I am not at all interested in buying anything from this particular collection (imo Zac Posen for Target was much better). I think the style of this collection is just not really something I go for, like you I am not into extremely bold prints. That said, the fit of this collection doesn't seem to flatter petites very well. I think the orange top looks great tucked in but it's kind of a hot mess when it's not tampered with. Thanks for the review! :)

  11. I kinda like the orange skirt on you with the long length and 60's skirt-like flare! I'm kinda quirky and strange like that though. It is nice that it fits at the waist (it doesn't fall off of your body!) but it doesn't look proportional at all. I still don't understand the hype of Tucker though lol. Can someone please tell me?

  12. I really like those colours on you and the skirt looks decent to me, but I don't think it's worth keeping and altering. I'm sure you could find much better quality items too.

  13. Seriously? They didn't line the skirt- that's sort of cheap on their part!

  14. I was also surprised to see so much stuff left at Target from this line. I vote no keep on the skirt...I, too played around with it at my local target store and decided that the A-line was not the most flattering (and not the most versatile) silhouette on tiny petites, plus the un-lined part is a bust.

I haven't been loving their clothing collab's as of late! But i just orderd some blue gem earrings from their Temple St Claire for target collection. It hasn't gotten too much hype but Temple st claire's "real" jewelry is stunning and uber expensive.

  15. I really like the colors, but the fit looks too big in general. Sigh, next time Target, next time.

    Thanks for the useful post!

  16. I'm not a fan of the orange outfit, though it is a great colour for fall. It makes your body seem so shapeless!

I like the mosaic-print top and it's a shame it didn't fit you!!!

  17. I love the orange color for fall but the top and skirt are both huge on you! It hides your cute figure :)

  18. aww i like these prints but boo on their sizing :(

  19. I think the orange pairing looks cute, but like you said, too big. Too bad that skirt couldn't have been a nice little pencil skirt! :(

  20. No lining is no good! The A-line is also overwhelming on your frame. The herringbone pattern is nice...too bad the other elements weren't there! The rust colored camisole looks great when tucked in and seems like a good layering piece. But that's a wash if it won't stay tucked in. =/

  21. I like the top portion of the skirt and even the orange herringbone pattern but the A-line plus the length look a bit overwhelming on your frame. How disappointing to have something fit well at the waist but not every where else. :(

  22. Thanks for the review! I didn't get a chance to check out Tucker for Target, yet, but looks like they have some amazing pieces:) Hope ure enjoying the weekend!

  23. I tried on that skirt too but was totally unimpressed with the quality. A-line has never been my favorite shape for skirts anyway.
