Miss Selfridge Denim Bubble Dress

The ever prolific blogger Miss Elle from Fast Food & Fast Fashion bought this denim bubble dress from the British company Miss Selfridge on final sale, only to find out that the UK size 4 dress didn't quite fit her:

Instead of letting it go to waste, she decided to give away the dress to another petite who might have better luck... and the only one who was vain enough to think she could fit into it was MOI!  But for all my bravado, I was more than a little apprehensive when I got her package and put the dress on, and breathed a huge sigh of relief when I was able to zip it up! :)

The only problem is that the straps are too long and need some taking up for me to stay decent:

But other than that, the fit is pretty much perfect!  It's probably one of the most close-fitting dresses I've ever tried on that doesn't have any stretchy smocking.  I'd never heard of this brand until now since it's British, but I'm starting to really like UK sizing in general because the UK size 4 seems to fit me really well.  I'd recently ordered a few things from ASOS, and even though I didn't end up keeping anything, I was very impressed by the fit of their UK size 4 dresses.  Even though their fabric quality is a little iffy and doesn't seem worth retail prices, I'm definitely open to trying more of their things... especially now that they opened a US site with free shipping both ways!

Thanks Elle for a cute dress and I'm so excited that it fits! :D

  10. I was originally looking at your post with my phone and had been confused on why the dress looked like it had huge armholes (like overalls) until I realized it wasn't zipped up in the first picture. LOL - I'm such a dolt! Anyhow, that dress is very cute on you! I love the bubble hem. How are you going to style it?

  11. It looks so cute on you! I'm thinking it would look awesome if you paired a lightweight sweater underneath and paired it with leggings and a jacket on top. SO CUTE! Elle is a really fantastic, sweet blogger I'm so glad this dress went to someone who fit really great in it!

  12. That dress looks great on you and it's nice to hear that UK4 runs small. I hear that in some places they have UK2 and I wonder who'd wear that...but I guess there will always be someone smaller. =)

  14. I'm scared about UK sizing too! When clothes are too big, they can be altered. But when they're too small... I wouldn't know what to do! lol. The bubble hem is really cute on you!

  18. So glad it fits you! I find a lot of Miss Selfridge clothes run pretty small, even by UK standards. Going by your measurements it sounds like this one is pretty true to size for UK 4, though.

If you ever wanted to try more of their clothes, I see they ship to the US, and they also have a petite range... the only problem I've had with Miss Selfridge is that the sizing can be inconsistent. I've tried on size 4 shorts that fit me and size 6 jeans I couldn't fasten, on the same day. There's no shortage of tiny items, though.

  19. Elle is so nice to offer up her "misfits" to readers! I too am intrigued by UK sz 4's now but their prices when not on sale is not enough to entice me. I hope ASOS in the US means more promotions and faster shipping. I recently noticed that they tacked on a foreign exchange fee onto my credit card for the transaction 2 months ago. I was furious!
