It's a bit hard to see, but it's a wrap neckline with an empire waist. The print is a bit casual, but for that price I can't complain :)
Next is this blazer in XXSP, which I thought looked pretty good in front:
But the side view was boxy and frumpy... although I think it has potential for someone who's a size up from me. I decided to pass since I didn't really need it or want it enough to get alterations.
Last but not least, I found an item that's been on my "want" list for many years... a wool coat!
This was on sale for $99, and initially the smallest I could find was an XSP (which is pictured above). After hemming and hawing, and knowing it was too big on me but still not wanting to let it go, I finally managed to walk away. But on my way out, I decided to check the tag of the coat on the display mannequin... lo and behold, an XXSP!! Needless to say, I quickly took it off the mannequin, tried it on in front of the store mirror (therefore no pics), and skipped all the way to the check out counter! :)
Now I've heard that Ann Taylor Factory quality is subpar compared to their regular merchandise, so I will be holding on to my receipt just in case I find something better. In fact, I have another wool coat coming in the mail, so will take pics of the XXSP size to show both of them later. In the mean time, I'm also eyeing this other Ann Taylor wool coat ($398), available in XXSP in camel, gray, and black:
If only there were another 40% off coupon...!
The blazer looks really good from the front! I like the wool coat! I always check the mannequins when stores don't have my size. HAHA Most of the time, mannequins wear the larger sizes and I have no luck. You're really lucky, missy!

I like that first top! Looks really cute on you!
ReplyDeleteAbout the last coat (Ann taylor wool coat, $398), I ordered and tried it on which you can see in this post:
http://tinyintexas.blogspot.com/2010/10/review-ann-taylor-perfect-camel-coat.html
Don't even bother! Way too boxy and shapeless from the side. It will swamp you, not worth the money for sure!
LOL. I looove pulling clothing off mannequins. I once made a poor sales associate dismantle...yes...dismantle, as in take the arms of a mannequin, so I could try on a dress. Surprise surprise, it didn't fit.
ReplyDeleteThat wool coat looks awesomely cute! Can't wait to see you model your XXSP conquest. =)
The Little Dust Princess - They always pin things on mannequins so I always get fooled, so I rarely look. Good thing I did this time! :)
ReplyDeleteTinyInTexas - Oooh that's the same coat!? I definitely remember seeing your post, but didn't realize that's the same one! *sigh* There goes that!
AN - LOL!! I'm sure that sales associate must have loved you haha... I probably might have bought the dress anyway to feel less embarrassed (and return later lol).
ReplyDeleteI know I was so disappointed too! I just I have the worst luck with coats as well. I have yet to find one this year. Can't wait to see the one you just picked up! Lol at your comment to AN, I'd probably buy/return as well out of embarassment.
ReplyDeleteGlad you decided to go with that first top. So flattering on you...it gives you nice curves!
ReplyDeleteOh! So glad you will be modeling some wool coats!
Really awesome you found the size on the mannequin :) Can't wait to see the other coat coming your way :)
ReplyDeleteI like the 1st top! It's flattering and the pattern is a nice change to the basic solid.
ReplyDeleteI'm in need of a wool coat as well, and in camel or a light grey! The AT by my work sold out of the camel coat in like, 2 days! I didn't even get a chance to try on :(
ReplyDeleteThat first top looks like it fits you! I recognize the cut of it.. I've bought a few like that (dif print) from the outlet for my mom. $10 is such a good price!
Great finds! Love the blazer! Too bad it's too big for ya in the back:( Don't you just love it when you find ur size as you're about to leave?? Best feeling ever!:) Congrats on ur wool coat!

I bought a few things from my last trip to Ann Taylor outlet too. The jacket seems a bit big on you. I am glad you found XXSP on the way out.
ReplyDeleteGreat find! I never think to look at the mannequin because I know I am the kind of person who would tip it over and make a scene. I can't wait for your other coat reviews (I really want to get another coat but I have no use for them!)
ReplyDeletewow what a steal you got on the coat!! i hope you'll model it soon. i actually really like AT stuff. the quality is excellent.
ReplyDeleteAnother successful outlet shopping trip! I love all your finds :) I really like the wool coat and its two columns of buttons, kind of like a pea coat, but longer. Do post about the AT wool coat if you end up getting it!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on finding the coat in XXSP!! Can't wait to see some comparison pics. Looks like you found some great pieces at the outlet!
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the blazer - it really looks good from the front! I wouldn't have imagined it'd look so big from the side. Great finds on the blouse and the XXSP in the coat! You did well at the outlets :)
ReplyDeleteHave you tried the JCrew wool coats? I'm even a little bit smaller (thinner) than you are, and I bought a great black wool coat from there a few years ago (in petite XS). It fits me beautifully, and in fact, the shoulders are almost a bit tight if I wear a heavy sweater underneath. Not sure if their sizing has changed recently, but I only bought it about 2 years ago so might be worth a try.
ReplyDeleteMichelle & kali - I was just surprised the neckline wasn't cut too low for me (V-necks usually are)
ReplyDeleteRainy Days, Elle, Ping, Cee & kileen - Now I feel a little pressured... hopefully this XXSP coat and the other coat that's coming will live up to your expectations! :)
sophia - Lol... you made me feel a little old there, wearing the same top as your Mom...! :P
SewPetiteGal - I was so excited when I first put the blazer on... then I turned to the side and it was an immediate no. Too good to be true!
Anonymous - It always amazes me that people sized smaller than myself can somehow manage to find clothes! Thanks for sharing about J.Crew, I will take a look the next time I'm near one, but I probably wouldn't hold my breath since their stuff rarely fits me. I know sizes do change because BR 00P/XXSP items used to fit much smaller a couple years ago than they do now... here's to hoping J.Crew coats run small!
i am totally in love with the blazer! the fit seems great too. i like that sleeveless top as well. great shopping trip!
ReplyDeleteAh, definitely no on the ann taylor coat that tiny in texas tried on...I wish they made it more fitted with waist accentuation!
ReplyDeleteGreat find on the XXSP in store. I never check the mannequins because when I usually find something the associates say it's not for sale (frequently at H&M)! Can't wait to see you modeling your new coat.
it's such a good feeling to find your size on a mannequin or in a store display. the first top is very nice - looks like it'd be a great layering piece for work. :)
ReplyDeleteI never have any luck at the Ann Taylor outlets! That blazer is super cute on you!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely try out J Crew. I was there this weekend and it looks like the wool coats are still cut pretty small (I was looking at regular XS), so the petite sizes should be even smaller. They have some cute designs too!
