Review: Gap Legging Jeans

Gap has been periodically sending out 40% off entire order coupons, but I usually never find anything worth keeping (or even trying) because even their petite sizing is usually too big on me.  But after seeing a glowing review from the always stylish Chloe about a certain pair of Gap jeans, and especially after learning that she shares my pancake butt syndrome, I had to try these Legging Jeans in 00P:

Now I never thought the day would come when I would actually consider wearing "jeggings," but there's just something about these that makes me feel awesome :)  And to be fair, they're more like actual jeans rather than jean leggings - they have real working pockets!

The material is surprisingly comfy and the fit is good!  The length is about right with a small amount of bunching at the ankle which I don't mind and prefer over ones that are too short.  There is also an ever so slight bit of gapping at the sides of the waist, which is pretty inconsequential and I suspect might go away with a wash/dry.  And true to Chloe's words, no flattening of the rear despite this being a clingy stretchy fabric!

Tucked and untucked views:

For some reason when I ordered, I didn't realize that they come in multiple other washes - including true black, classic, faded medium, as well as a faded dark blue wash that looks great on curls-and-pearls.  I got these at 40% off for ~$40, which is still a little expensive for me considering I usually buy kids' jeans.  That said, I might even consider picking up another color if these ever go on sale!

I was pretty pleasantly surprised by finding these possible keepers in this last Gap order (and I didn't even get a single kids item!).  But of course, there were some total flops as well... definitely don't bother with the following:
  • Ruffled Eyelet Top (XSP) - Humongous boxy tent, I could probably still fit in it if I'm 6 months pregnant.
  • Vintage Cardigan (XSP) - Also ginormous, probably at least a medium in LOFT cardigan sizing.
  • Tweed Mini Skirt (00P) - Very wide and unflattering, thick bulky fabric and unattractive pattern up close.  *Update* Per request, pics of the skirt are here: front, gap, and side.

  1. Wow, definitely a keeper I would say. I like the shape and the wash. Is the waist a little higher than normal low rise?

  2. Whoa surprised to see how well these fit you! $70 is a bit high for Gap (aren't BR jeans about that price?), but with 40% that's not too bad. Curious to see the "keepers"!

  3. Mix and Match - You know I hadn't noticed, but they're definitely not super low rise... they hit me about 2-3 finger widths below the belly button if that helps any.

sophia - I actually thought of you when I put these on! You would definitely rock them, Miss Skinny Legs :) Thought these were pretty expensive as well but coupon helps. And actually, these and the crop pants in my last post were the possible 'keepers', no more lucky hits up my sleeve :)

  5. These look fabulous on you! The fit seems to be really good! Yes, $40 for jean leggings is a little much for me as well! o_o But the fit looks amazingly great on you. I guess it's justifiable in some sense :)

  6. These look like keepers for sure. I'm really regretting not ordering these with the 40% off, but many of the reviews said to size down and I was worried they wouldn't be as snug as I'd like. $40 is a lot of jeans but these seem like they would get tons of wear, making it worth it! I also like how it's more like a legging-denim, than jeggings (true jeggings are probably not nearly as flattering).

  7. These look amazing on you! I'm so glad they worked out :) Gap is surprising all of us aren't they?

  8. These look really great on you!!!! I think on you they look more like skinny jeans but I think it's $40 well spent. Did you happen to get a picture of you wearing the tweed skirt? I am kind of interested to see it in person as I am in the market for something similar.

  9. I'm still waiting for mine, they should be arriving today. I can't wait. These look great on you. Love it. Please let me know what is the brand of your shoes? Love them too.

  10. These jeans look really good on you and definitely accentuate in the right areas. $40 is not a bad price, but I know you are comparing it to the usual kids clothing you often purchase, so could be considered a bit pricey. They look comfortable and I am sure you will get a lot of use out of them. Buy the faded dark blue ones, I bet they would be a good look and possibly more clothes would complement them.

  11. I really like them... $40 isn't too bad to me either, as long as they are quality and you'll get a lot of wear out of them! My favorite is the fact that they are short enough to wear with flats in the summer. Some of my skinniest jeans are only "under boots" jeans because of how long they are :(

  12. OMG something actually fits you! they look really great.i think they are not too expensive at all. gotta pay for what fits especially since you have such a hard time finding things that fit.

  13. i think jeggings may just be your thing. i haven't even considered trying them to emphasize my thighs of steel lol .. or rather excess adipose tissue. i really like the wash on these and the fit looks quite promising!

  14. Great review and thank you for covering those other items that were too huge to check out. I have to say that you look soooo amazing in these leggings. I don't think I've seen another post of yours where the clothing item looked like iit fit you so well or was so flattering. Really beautiful!

  15. They look great! I swore off jeggings at first too, but then I found some that actually hold their shape in the butt and still feel like a good "old-fashioned" jean, and now I'm a convert! Do the GAP ones stretch out in the butt? GAP jeans are notorious for this. I hate suffering from the saggy butt syndrome.

  16. Rainy Days / PAG / Petite Sweaters / Erin / Ping - I think you guys are right... $40 is not a bad price to pay at all for a well-fitting pair of jeans.

curls-and-pearls: I know! I can't even remember the last thing I bought from Gap, but all of a sudden they score with jeans/pants which are typically so hard to find!

Claud - Shoes are the Ann Taylor Perfect Leather Pumps that I've been wearing in all my pics lately :)

Angie - You have amazing long legs! I bet you'd look great in them too. The wash on these is definitely distinctive and not something I have already (and yet still versatile I think).

Callandra - Thank you for such high compliments! How can I not keep these after seeing what you said :)

cher - I haven't worn these for an extended amount of time yet, but I hate that too (pants are worse offenders than jeans for me). But these seem okay so far, the material is quite different than regular jeans... you should try them! I think you can probably get away with the regular non-petite sizing given your long inseam.

  17. Those look perfect on you! Is this soft stretchy denim or the stiffer kind? I envy your slender legs!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thank you! are yours made of patent leather in the porcini color?

    ReplyDelete
  19. SewPetiteGal - It's a very soft stretchy denim... feels almost like leggings but looks unmistakably like jeans though... which I like! :) My legs aren't that skinny... prolly just the camera angle ;)

Claud - Yup they are in the porcini color... I bought the matching belt in porcini too! Lol.

Elle - I haven't forgotten about you! Left the skirt in my car (to be returned), will fetch and take a pic for u tomorrow :) I doubt it's what you're looking for though, horrid fit and pattern looks kinda ugly in person to be honest.

  20. The jeans look great on you!!!! I am still undecided about mine, they're almost too tight. I wish I got a 0P to try on for size, but they are out of stock now. Every time I try on them on I keep changing my mind! Can't make up my mind to save my life these days.

  21. I do think they are a keeper for sure. It's rarely for you to find something that fits right (especiallly for denim). For the price, they're not bad either considering they're adult version not kids. Am I going to see AIzu denim review next :)?

  22. I know everyone is raving over these gap jeggings, but IMO, they have awful butt pockets. Wide & flat = making your derriere wide & flat.

  23. Another positive review for these babies! I love these... please do let me know when you find them on sale.. I'll definitely snatch them up in at least a couple washes!! :D

  24. They fit you well!! :)

Legging jeans are by far my favorite pants this year. I love Abercrombie Landon Super Skinnies, and 7FAM Gwenevere Lexie Petite Leggings!

    ReplyDelete
  25. PetiteLG - Definitely expect to see a review on the Allison Izu jeans! :)

Aubrey - The pockets are probably not optimal, but you know what they say about beggars and choosers! My backside is about as shapely and un-flattened as it's ever been in any pair of jeans, so I'm okay with it. Doubt I can do any better unless I learn how to make my own jeans!

elleandish - Definitely will do! I'm waiting for prices to drop too so I can try the faded dark blue wash.

J - I have a pair of the Abercrombie (kids) Maddy Skinny, but haven't tried the Landon Super Skinnies because I never thought I'd want to wear legging jeans. Might have to try them now! :)

  26. Hi Petite XXS!

The Landons fit tighter on the calf & ankle than the Maddy. Here's a pic of me wearing my light wash ones that I got for $20 during the sale (sz 14s):

    Very comfy and stretchy.

  27. This one looks extremely flattering on you. Perfect fit! Never thought GAP would carry any pants/jeans that would fit me. Time to reconsider.

  28. J - The Landons look great on you! I never would've thought to get a lighter wash, but it looks quite nice in a casual outfit.

Elle - Finally posted pics of the tweed skirt for you! I guess it's not as horrible as I remembered, but would definitely need alterations if I keep it. I'm thinking I can probably find something better.

  29. Thanks so much for making the effort and taking more pictures, thank you thank you thank you. I can't believe it's this boxy and big on you, you can seriously fit another you in that skirt. Sigh, the hunt for a new tweed skirt continues.

    Have a great weekend!

  30. Good price, classy looking fit for a pair of petite jeans, and by the way, I prefer the untucked look on you!

  31. Hi everyone,
I'm petite (5 feet tall and 109 pounds), but am still curvy (wide hips, 30DD bust). I usually have a problem finding jeans that fit me: nearly every pair gives me "muffin top". In a magazine a few weeks ago, I read an article about a new denim label called Rue de Jeans that has an elastic panel in it to eliminate the muffin top problem. Do any of you know where I could buy a pair of these jeans (either online or at a store in the New York City area)? The Rue de Jeans website doesn't have any information on where to buy the jeans online, instead only listing a few store locations in California and Hong Kong, neither of which I'll be going to anytime soon. I would LOVE to buy a pair of these jeans, though. DO any of you know anything about where I could find/buy them? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  32. Delias is where I get all my pants. They fit like a dream. I'm 5'1 and 90 lbs. so as you can imagine, it is very hard for me to find a fit. Delias has jeans and pants as short as 26' inseam. I actually wear a 28'- I'm not the smallest size! The store is targeted for a young crowd, but pants are pants!
